At the bottom of each property information page on our website is a statement which reads
Because we were continually getting email enquiries asking for more "details and information" we placed a cute little flashing lighthouse above this statement as seen below so that people would notice the statement, even though it is in large block capitals
However, we still get dozens of enquiries asking for "more information and details". Last week we telephoned a client who had asked for more details and when I asked her what she wanted to know about the property in question she couldn't think of a single question to ask. Whenever we get this type of enquiry we write back with one simple question "what would you like to know?" 95% never reply.
The truth of the matter is that we place all the information we have on the website. In some cases members of our staff might pick up a little more information as and when they visit the property for viewings but in order to supply more information and details we have to know the questions. I sometimes wonder whether there are hundreds of people out there, sitting at their computers with nothing better to do than ask for more details and information. I also wonder what would happen if we responded to this type of enquiry with something like the following:-
The owner of the house hates strawberry ice cream but loves peanut butter
The house is haunted
There is a rumour that a Roman orgy was once held in this house
You can't view the house because the owner is out collecting more details and information
The roof tiles are a normal terra cotta colour
The trees around the house have 14 branches each and each branch has 50 leaves
The grass around the house is green
Apart from the information you have already seen about the kitchen, the washing machine, microwave, oven and dishwasher work by switching them on
There are in total, 34 light bulbs in the house but two of them need replacing
The mains water mentioned in the details sheet is surprisingly mains water.
The mains electricity mentioned in the details sheet is amazingly mains electricity
The land line telephone mentioned in the details sheet works by picking it up and punching in numbers, like any other telephone
The old man seen in one of the pictures on the details sheet is a sandwich short of a picnic but is not for sale with the house.
The house is detached, as mentioned on the details sheet, which means that it is standing alone i.e. not attached to another house
The house has three bedrooms, as mentioned on the details sheet, meaning that they are rooms where people sleep, usually on beds.
There is a photograph of the inside and outside of the house, together with all of the rooms in it and the garden. However, if you would like a photograph of the inside of the chimney you can take one when and if you view the property.
