Albox & Velez Rubio
Located
between the better known towns of Baza and Huercal, the small town of Albox is
flanked by the Sierra de las Estancias and the Sierra de los Filabres mountain
ranges amidst stunning countryside of olive groves, orchards of citrus trees and
dramatic hills and valleys. Several rivers and streams flow close to the town,
including the rivers Almanzora and Albanchez which contribute to the area's rich
agricultural heritage.
Albox
is a typical white-washed village with narrow streets interspersed with small
plazas. Despite its unspoilt charm, the town is not yet on the coach tour
circuit, despite being less than 15 minutes drive to the beach at Vera, 20
minutes drive to beaches at Garrucha and 35 minutes drive from the popular
coastal resort of Mojácar. Many of the "spaghetti westerns" were
filmed in areas close to Albox.
All services and facilities can be found in Albox including shops, opticians,
dentists, doctors, schools, restaurants and bars.

The
15th century city of Velez-Rubio has 6,000 inhabitants approximately and is

five centuries) attracts many tourists and those wishing to have the best of

buildings of interest. The new part of the city has pleasant walkways with
landscaped areas such as the King Square and Park of the Meson which has a great
variety of multi-coloured fish and ducks. There is also a children's play area.
Since 1804 there has always been a weekly market on Saturdays in Velez Rubio.
The market stalls offer many bargains with a wide range of
goods and produce at extremely inexpensive prices and span 4
main streets in the city. There are also many café bars, restaurants, ice cream
stalls, pubs and discothèques. This city has something for everyone.
Close to Velez Rubio is the Nature Reserve of Sierra Maria- Los Velez. There are
two play areas for children integrated within the Nature Reserve - The Piza and
the Alamicos.
Set in stunning mountain scenery the park is interspersed with ornate fountains,
barbecues, bars and shops.
Due to the location of this vast nature reserve, it is possible to experience
hill walking where there are lots of routes to discover the flora and fauna,
passing the botanical gardens to look at the extraordinary landscape whilst
